Location: Sevilla, Spain
As Expo ’92 was built across the street from the main city new bridges were needed to provide access.
Puente de la Barqueta
Engineer: Juan J. Arenas y Marcos J. Pantaleón
Date: 1992
The first bridge is the Puente de la Barqueta which sits near the center of the Expo. The bridge is an arch that hangs the deck below it from red cables. At the end the arch splits to either side of the roadway.
We headed across the bridge and walked up along the other side of the river.
Puente del Alamillo
Engineer: Santiago Calatrava
Date: 1992
The Puente del Alamillo is located on the northern end of the Expo ’92 grounds. The bridge is a cable-stayed style that uses the weight of the leaning tower to counterbalance the roadway.
The bridge itself is rather simple with two roadways on either side of an elevated central walkway.
